What is bio diesel?

Bio diesel is an ecological alternative fuel produced from any kind of vegetable oil and animal fats. It can be used in any diesel engine as fuel oil.

What is bio diesel made from?

Bio diesel is made from either vegetable or animal (edible or waste) fats by mixing them with methanol and a catalyst. It is possible to use sodium (not recommended) or potassium methylate, which gives better results in manufacturing. It is recommended for beginners.

Can bio diesel be used in all vehicles?

100% bio diesel can be used in all vehicles produced by 2006. Older vehicles may have a problem with rubber hoses that supply fuel. Ordinary diesel erodes hose gum, for this it takes more time – up to 5 years. Since 1992 all hoses have mineral or silicone inlet built in.. Newer vehicles may have problems with “diesel particulate filter” with using 100% bio diesel. All car manufacturers for newer vehicles (Euro 5) have allowed a mixture of 20% bio diesel and 80% euro diesel.
You should check with producers which percentage is allowed for a particular model. There are vehicles that can consume 100% pure bio diesel.

Is it possible to mix bio diesel with fossil diesel and in what percentage?

Bio diesel can be successfully mixed with fossil diesel in any percentage, without any separation later. In the European Union in the diesel EN 590 there is already 12% bio diesel. Most often a mixture contains 20% to 50% of bio diesel in fossil diesel.

Does bio diesel cause the appearance of smoke from the exhaust?

The use of bio diesel reduces the emission of smoke from the exhaust. However, due to the high flash point, smoke and poor combustion can occur during cold start but it disappears after a few minutes. If you have any problems with smoke, it is a reliable indicator that the engine of your car does not have sufficient compression.

Can bio diesel be used in all weather conditions?

Bio diesel is generally not considered as a winter fuel. The reason is relatively high point of crystallization. Because of that bio diesel from fat crystallizes already at about 12th degree, and bio diesel from oil crystallizes from -6th to -12th degree. This can be partly improved by adding additives to the assigned bio diesel, or by mixing it with fossil diesel.

How long can bio diesel be stored without any quality change?

If bio diesel is produced in accordance with the standard EN 14214, and if it is stored in hermetically sealed containers protected from the sun it can be stored for up to 4 months (in winter period 6 months) without any significant changes of quality. If additives for stabilization are added, the deadline is extended to 12 months. The important thing is that bio diesel does not come into contact with air, copper, bronze, zinc and brass.

How to check the quality of bio diesel?

The only reliable way to do the analysis is in accredited laboratory, which has adequate devices for analysis according to the methods specified in EN 14 214 standard. Since one of these laboratories costs several hundred thousand euros, a complete analysis of not less than 800Eur. Manufacturers apply to selective analysis and handy solutions. Some of the most controlled items are: the content of methyl ester, content of glycerin, methanol content, flash point, oxidation stability, acid number and water content.
Here we give you an example of a handy solution to describe the process.
The content of methyl ester of
There are several important thinghs to tell us about the fuel quality. This is one of the most important items. In order to check the content of methyl ester fuel the following equipment is needed:
Separating funnel 2lit
Glass measuring jug 1l
Glass measuring jug 100ml
10ml glass measuring jug
thermometer
methanol
Erlenmeyer 200ml wide neck
With Erlenmeyer take a sample of bio diesel and pour exactly 100 m into a beaker of 100 ml l. Then pour exactly 900 ml of methanol Into a beaker of 1000ml l. Measure the temperature of bio diesel and methanol and, if necessary, regulate it to be about 20 degrees. Then all this pour into a separating funnel and shake well until all bio diesel is dissolved in methanol. After one minute of stuttering, leave the funnel to stand for 10 minutes. All accumulated sediment separate and pour into a beaker of 10ml. The maximum level of the sediment is 3.5 ml. The ester content in% = 100 – (amount in a ml of a sediment). If we have 3.5 ml of the residue, the equations is as follows: 100 – 3.5 = 96.5%. Since the method is handy, you cannot talk about laboratory precision and therefore some deviations are possible.

What is a byproduct of bio diesel production?

A byproduct of bio diesel production is glycerol, a dark and sticky liquid substance. Glycerin is non-toxic and biodegradable. It can be used for compost when mixed with agricultural waste to produce bio gas, or it can be used for the manufacture of soap or candles

Can you get a high quality bio diesel without expensive equipment?

The answer to this is YES. Bio diesel is an essential product of quality recipes and quality mixing of raw materials. Expensive and high quality equipment is characterized by automating of process by minimization of human factors, safety at work, quality of mixing and refining of the quality of bio diesel. The more sophisticated equipment is the skills of workers is less necessary. The more equipment is simple, the skills and laboratory analytical equipment are more required. You have the advantage of a continuous process related to a batch.

How much does the equipment for the production of bio diesel cost?

The basic package equipment for individuals starts from 2250 Eur, and for the industry from 4000 Eur. Automatic lines range from 12,000 to 55,000 Euros.

What is the production cost of one liter of bio diesel?

The production cost depends on several factors. It primarily depends on the method of obtaining bio diesel, the type of catalyst and refining methods. It also depends on the degree of automation of the process and the number of workers needed to keep the plant running. With machines for home use the price of a liter is around 16RSD a liter of processed fuel.

Should bio diesel be filter?

Yes, bio diesel must first be filtered mechanically and then chemically. But in some cases it must be polished. A mechanical filter is 5 micron 10 “inches and at the request of the customer it may be higher or lower. Two to five pieces can be bound in a row. By chemical filtration all impurities are removed such as soap, glycerol, not-reacted oil, phosphate and water. Polishing bio diesel is done on polishers and polish pots. The real purpose of polishing is to reduce the filterability of bio diesel and all particles down to 1 micron. One filter in a polish the pot can keep in itself up to 2 pounds of dirt and 0.8 liters of water.

Do I have to buy these filters, and where?

No. Housing and filters for mechanical and chemical filtration are included with the filter purchased machine. A chemical filter can refine from 300 to 600 liters of bio diesel. After that it is needed to be changed. Besides housing which is supplied with the processor (15 I), housing of larger size can be ordered If necessary (30 and 75 liters). A larger number of connecting pieces can also be bound (for the industry). The price of a filter is 75 euros for 15000 liters of bio diesel. A mechanical filter can process up to 50000 liters. Apolisher can be purchased subsequently If needed.

How much time does the production process take?

By a batch, one batch (50 to 200lit) takes from 2 to 6 hours depending on the type of the processor.

Is it difficult to produce bio diesel?

Bio diesel processors are so designed that for the operator are needed 10 to 15 minutes per a batch.

How much oil or fat is needed to produce 1 liter of bio diesel?

Each liter of oil produces one liter of bio diesel. In other words,a processor 125 produces 100 liters per batch, and a processor 200 produces 160 liters of bio diesel. Each kilogram of fat provides 1.13 liters of bio diesel.

Who and what kind of training is provided to customers?

The needed training takes place with the delivery of our equipment. The training consists of the client’s getting to know measures of fire prevention, safety at work, fuel quality control, meeting the technical documentation of equipment, methods of obtaining bio diesel from different raw materials and using different technologies. Training is provided by technologists in the field of chemistry.

How much space is needed for a processor?

Not a room bigger than 3 x 3 or 4 x 4 meters. An extra space is needed for storage of oil, bio diesel and chemicals.

Is it possible to buy the equipment on credit or by leasing?

A complete program is aimed for solving environmental problems of mankind. As such it is accompanied by environmental loans of commercial banks. For the approval of the loan it is not necessary to go to the bank, but the job og getting it takes place here on the premises of our company.
